"Ugly Truth" writers paint pretty picture

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In Hollywood things are rarely as they seem.
Case in point: Karen McCullah Lutz & Kirsten Smith were talking about writing the romantic comedy "The Ugly Truth," opening July 24 via Lakeshore Entertainment and Columbia.
Robert Luketic directed "Ugly." He directed "Legally Blonde." Lutz and Smith wrote "Blonde." It grossed almost $100 million and jumpstarted Luketic's directing career. So it figures -- Luketic hired them to write "Ugly."

Well, actually, no. Luketic was hired after the duo finished rewriting a screenplay Nicole Eastman had written 10 years earlier. "It was one of those scripts that had been floating around for a while," Karen recalled. "At one point Gwyneth Paltrow and Ben Affleck were attached. That's when they were dating. That's how long it's been."
So how'd they get the job? Lutz: "Lakeshore called us up and asked if we wanted to rewrite it and we said yes."
Yes, but there's more to it than that. Lutz and Smith also wrote the 2006 romantic comedy "She's the Man," which starred Amanda Bynes.
Smith: "Lakeshore were financiers on it. DreamWorks had hired us to work on it. We'd never really gotten to know Tom and Gary at Lakeshore (chairman & CEO Tom Rosenberg and president Gary Lucchesi) so we decided one day that we should remedy that." So they sat down to talk to Rosenberg and "the very first thing he brought up was the script 'The Ugly Truth.'"
"We started talking about it and it led to a really great partnership with them."

In "Ugly" Katherine Heigl plays Abby Richter, a romantically challenged morning show producer seeking Mr. Perfect, but still hopelessly single. The plot thickens when she's teamed up with the show's new in-your-face reporter Mike Chadway (Gerard Butler) who knows "the ugly truth" about what makes men and women tick.... more here

Natasha Henstridge - the voice of the female lead in "Time Jumper"

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Stan Lee has hired Natasha Henstridge to voice the female lead in "Time Jumper," his newest comic invention.

The "digital comic book-style thriller," as Lee describes it, debuts Thursday at the big Comic-Con gathering in San Diego, where Lee will host a panel and showcase footage from the project. Disney's home entertainment division is distributing "Jumper" via cell phone and the Web in 10 serialized five- to eight-minute episodes to be released every two weeks through December.
"'Time Jumper' is a little bit different than anything that I have done before," Lee said. "We think it is a brand new concept and something that could really be a winner."

"Jumper" follows Terry Dixon, a college student in possession of his late father's time-travel invention, the Articulus. After his brother goes missing, Dixon is recruited by H.U.N.T. (Heroes United, Noble and True), a secret crime-fighting unit that sends him through time to thwart Charity Vile, leader of the criminal cartel, C.U.L.T. (Council of Unstoppable, Lethal Terrorists).
Henstridge will voice Vyle, the story's villain. Lee cameos as Lee Excelsior, CEO of H.U.N.T..... more here

Brad Pitt's Very Bad Advice

It's a jungle out there, and this month Wired delivers the new rules for highly evolved humans, providing readers with a scientific approach to dozens of 21st century predicaments, featuring some very bad advice from Brad Pitt such as: Don't online stalk before a first date: A 2007 study by Cornell and Michigan State found that 81 percent of participants who used online dating sites provided false information about how short, old or heavy they were. Judge your dates face-to-face.

The actor approached Wired about collaborating on an upcoming project in support of his new film with Quentin Tarantino, "Inglourious Basterds." He liked the Mystery issue we had done with J.J. Abrams in May and wanted to break away from the traditional celebrity magazine story. So he called our creative director, Scott Dadich, and after talking about concept of what the package might look and feel like; they both decided to it and started shaping a shot list and cover ideas.... more here

Cameron Diaz may seem carefree in most of her movies, but the "Charlie's Angels" star gets grossed out by door handles and refuses to touch them with her bare hands. Instead, she uses her elbows to turn the knobs. While she claims she's not a germaphobe, she sounds like one to us. Cameron's in good company, however, as there are many celebrities who've confessed to strange phobias and obsessions through the years.

Whoopi Goldberg: Afraid of Flying
Whoopi Goldberg seems to have her act together. Currently the moderator on "The View," Whoopi is an Oscar, Grammy, Tony, Golden Globe, and Emmy-winning actress and comedian, and she seems genuinely loved and respected by her peers. But up until recently, Whoopi had a debilitating fear of flying and would travel across country in her own bus when she needed to go coast to coast. When Goldberg's "Sister Act" became a musical and was set to debut in London's West End, it became clear that the bus was not an option. She agreed to have representatives from Virgin Atlantic's Flying Without Fear program help her address her phobia. And not only has Whoopi gone to London to support her show, she's also made surprise visits to her family and trips to Las Vegas to perform at the Encore Theater (which had been dark since the unexpected death of headliner Danny Gans)... more here

Megan Fox's Make or Break Movie

Megan Fox is known for three things: fighting killer robots along side Shia LeBeouf in two "Transformers" movies; dating Brian Austin Green; and looking really good at movie premieres. In the past month, with the release of "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," the hype surrounding Fox has reached a fever pitch and clearly she's growing restless with being pigeon-holed as Tinseltown's latest action-flick hottie. Last week, she complained to EW that "working with [director] Michael Bay is not about an acting experience."

Bay promptly retorted in an interview with The Wall Street Journal (of all places), saying "[Fox] says some very ridiculous things because she's 23 years old and she still has a lot of growing to do."
Watch the exclusive trailer from 'Jennifer's Body' >>

Both of course are true. In spite of Bay's protestations, no one ever went to one of his flicks for the Oscar-worthy performances; they go to see stuff get blown up. And Fox is young and does have a surprisingly thin resume considering her buzz. Since Bay tapped her for the first "Transformers" movie in '07, she's only appeared in two movies and those were both just supporting roles. But that's about to change. For the first time, Megan Fox is set to open a movie -- this fall's horror comedy "Jennifer's Body" where she plays a cheerleader possessed by a boy-hating demon.... more here

Jackson Doc canceled an interview with the LAPD.

We've learned Dr. Conrad Murray canceled an interview with the LAPD.

As we have already reported, the LAPD is treating Michael Jackson's death as a homicide. Detectives have their sights set on Murray, as the person who may have administered the drug Propofol, which we're told is the primary cause of Jackson's death.

We're told the LAPD planned a third interview with Dr. Murray earlier in the week -- the doctor was interviewed the day Jackson died and again two days later.

Reps from the L.A. County Coroner's office planned to attend the third interview, but we're told Dr. Murray's lawyer called and said the doctor would not be speaking to the cops at this time.... read more

Megan Fox - Biography, photos, wallpapers

Megan Fox Biography

A slender, olive-skinned actress whose elegant beauty is somewhat offset by a collection of vivid tattoos (including a portrait of Marilyn Monroe on her right forearm and the King Lear quote "We all laugh at gilded butterflies" on her right shoulder blade), Megan Fox knew she wanted to be an actress from age three, and never once considered another line of work. A native of Memphis, TN, Fox began taking dance lessons when she was five years old and continued perfecting her graceful movements even after her family relocated to Florida five years later. At 13, the aspiring starlet enrolled in modeling and acting classes. It didn't take long for all of Fox's hard work to pay off, with a role in the 2001 Olsen twins comedy Holiday in the Sun marking the ambitious actress' official screen debut.

Over the course of the next few years, Fox became a frequent fixture on television thanks to roles on What I Like About You, Two and a Half Men, and Hope & Faith. In 2004, Fox would torment a fledgling Lindsay Lohan in Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, though it was Fox's performance as a human caught in the middle of an epic robot battle that would truly prove her calling card to Hollywood. Cast as the love interest of Shia LaBeouf in Michael Bay's 2007 blockbuster Transformers, Fox turned more than a few heads while fighting for the future of the human race. In 2008, Fox could be spotted opposite Kirsten Dunst, Simon Pegg, Jeff Bridges, and Gillian Anderson in the Robert B. Weide-directed comedy How to Lose Friends and Alienate People.
